MARY BEAR SCHUBAUER
Mary Bear is of mixed ancestry including Choctaw, Cherokee, English, German and a bit of Irish too. Mary's art reflects her background especially the Native American. She paints what she values most in life, One Spirit Family, love, joy, nature, earth and sky.
Her works are visual prayers for Unity, Balance, Healing, Honor and most of all Peaceful Ways. Mary is self-taught or Spirit taught, as she prefers to say. She works in vibrant colors of acrylic paints and metallic and pearlized inks. Her works are very spiritual and often come to her in dreams and prayers. Many paintings come with poetry, stories or songs: each a visual teaching. Every color and object has symbolic meaning. She paints in bold colors balanced with clear soft colors. Mary does not paint specific facial features in her works because she believes that locks you into a specific age and personality. We are all a reflection of the Great Mystery and that is unpaintable. Her works are in a number of private collections in the U.S. as well as abroad.
